I’m looking for some cute craft ideas that don’t require a lot of materials. I have a ton of scrapbooking paper, a roll of magnets and some random household items I could use ( I have a lot of aluminum cans that I could use for a recycled art project). I’m looking for something that’s not to corny and that the kids would have fun with. Any ideas would be great!

Hobbies: How to Come Up With a Craft Idea for Kid Programs
Tuesday, July 27th, 2010Are you a camp director or Sunday School teacher looking for a craft idea for kid enrichment? Maybe you feel like you are just not the creative type, and you struggle with coming up with craft projects. It is true that some people just have a knack for finding or even inventing craft ideas, but your creativity can be improved. There are ways to make it easier to find a craft idea for kid needs.
First, lay aside any perfectionism. Locking yourself into thinking there is only one right way to do something makes every decision harder. Regardless of the kid program you are helping with, there are always many suitable craft ideas out there. Don’t worry about picking the wrong one! If you’ve taken into consideration the age and skill levels of the kids involved, your choice will be adequate.
Next, consider your budget. When choosing a craft idea for kid programs, you need to be aware that some of them are expensive. Prepackaged kits to make a fun foam picture frame or a craft stick cross are affordable for a few kids, but if you are needing to do a craft with a lot of kids, these kits might cost too much. It’s often easy to do almost exactly the same project by just looking at the craft kit components and buying the same materials in bulk at the discount store. You may have to do some preparation, like cutting out shapes ahead of time, or at least making cardboard patterns for the kids to use in cutting out their own. The savings will be worth it, however.
Another consideration is this: in spite of years of indoctrination from women’s libbers, the fact remains that boys and girls like different sorts of crafts! If the craft seems a little girly, don’t use it at boys’ camp. Stick with lace-up leather billfolds, Indian artifacts, dinosaur art, and similar projects. Girls will like beads and anything that’s pink or purple. For a craft idea for kid camp where there are kids of both sexes, keep it on the boyish side and provide some pink materials to keep the girls happy.
An aspect of creativity that the non-creative types don’t realize is that ideas spring from other ideas. That is, if you look over a book or website of craft ideas, maybe none of them will appeal to you, but if you let them, they will spark an idea for a similar project. Use what you can and change what you must in the craft directions. For instance, the craft may have a slogan to be written across the front. If you need to change the slogan to fit your own needs, it’s perfectly OK. For instance, the pictured project might say “Girls rock!” You can change that to “He is the Rock!” if that meets your VBS needs better.
A final suggestion is to realize that you don’t have to change the instructions or create something new to have a good craft idea for kid use. Feel free to follow the instructions to the letter if that works better for you. The kids will have a great time either way. Just pick a craft idea, for kid creativity beats adult creativity everytime! The kids will make it creative, even if you have doubts about your own ability in this area.

What are some good last minute craft ideas I can do with the children to make gifts for daddy?
Monday, July 19th, 2010I was thinking on helping my children who are six, nine, and twelve make some presents for daddy today. I am wondering what would be some simple craft ideas to do with them to make presents for him that I could use with household materials or other cheap materials? Fun For Toddler Craft Ideas
Thursday, July 15th, 2010Getting a child to sit still can be an almost impossible feat. They are constantly exploring the world around them. That’s a good thing, but sometimes you need a creative downtime. This is where the craft child comes in.
Craft is great for young children for a number of reasons. It can help develop a greater ability to concentrate. Most crafts help develop hand-eye coordination. And young children can benefit from learning to follow simple instructions. Here are some craft ideas that your child can do (with supervision).
Puppet Art
Puppets are fascinating to young children. Create your own puppet is easy, and fun. All you really need is some craft or popsicle sticks, construction paper, safety scissors, markers and glue.
Help your child cut small animal shapes from construction paper. He can draw faces and other details with washable markers. Glue stick to the back of the form, allow to dry, and is ready to set up a puppet show. If you want to do more elaborate puppets, as if to cut foam shapes. Glue on a pom pom for the nose, and bulging eyes add.
Paint with pudding
Children love the fingers, but it’s so complicated. And there is also concern about them eating the paint. Even if the paint is not toxic, can cause uneasy wise parents. The solution? That painting with pudding!
You do not need different flavors for different colors. Just use a piece of cake with a vanilla taste, divide them into small portions and add food coloring to create different shades. Give your child a paper plate to use as a canvas for his masterpiece. When he has done, he can eat without worry.
Design a T-Shirt
If your child is sewing or painting clothes with fabric paint, you can try your hand at designing clothes. However, the needles are small and sharp, and fabric paint is messy. What to do? Breaking the bookmarks!
Children can have a blast decorating a plain white shirt with colored markers. If you use washable, can create a design, wear, and start again after you wash the shirt. If a permanent design is desired, however, will have to let him use the non-washable markers. You can avoid disaster, covering the work area with newspaper and put a shirt of his son.
Individual
It May place mats contact paper is easy. Has your child cut small shapes from construction paper and paste them into a whole piece with a glue stick? You can add details with markers or embellish with stickers. When he’s done, place the artwork on a piece of contact paper with adhesive side up. Place another sheet of contact paper on top, stick down.
Most children only have the patience to make a placemat at a time. However, he can do another tomorrow, continuing until they are sufficient for the whole table. He’ll be so proud to know that everyone sees his artwork at every meal!
Crafts can help your child learn important skills while keeping very busy. Whether it’s a rainy day or just feeling creative, take the opportunity to enable it to channel their imagination into something you can admire so much.
