Craft Magazines
Saturday, June 26th, 2010If arts and crafts are your passion, and/or your business, then sometimes you need to get inspired with new ideas.
I don’t mean go to shows and copy something else, but just take a look at what is out there and it will quite often spark an idea.
Go to craft shows out of town, fall fairs, and especially crafts magazines. It can happen to even the most creative person, you just get stuck in a rut of making the same things every year, and you want to freshen everything up, try something new!
If you go to the magazine section of any store, you will literally find a magazine for every possible subject, but in the craft section, there are quite a few, scan through, see what others are making, and what will usually happen, if you are a creative person, something will spark an idea.
It quite often has nothing to do with the project you see, just something about it sparks another idea. You need visual stimulation to get the imagination going, get the creative juices flowing. Since painting and sewing are my passion, I subscribe to craft magazines with these subjects, for ideas, they also introduce me to new products, such as new paints, new fabrics, new paint brushes… things that light that light bulb in your head!.. and ideas just start flowing so fast, you need to write them down!
So, get yourself some craft magazines, subscribe to make life easier and its like Christmas when they come in the mail.. I can’t wait for each new issue, to see what I can come with for this years crafts, and if you are really original and creative, maybe look into putting your creation in the magazine. They are usually looking for fresh ideas, you may make some money that way!

7 Creative Article Marketing Ideas: What Should I Write About?
Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010
When you’re doing article marketing I know it’s easy to get completely stumped on what to write about, but this article will teach you 7 ways to generate interesting article topics that your readers want to read about, and publishers want to publish! (And that’s the idea, right?)
1) Put yourself in your target market’s shoes.
Ask yourself, “What are the 10 questions my customers most frequently ask me?”, then write articles to satisfy each of these questions.
Listen to your customers–there are no silly questions! If one person is asking, then there are probably many more people who are wondering the same thing. You are writing to serve the needs of your target market, so why not let them direct the topic of your articles?
2) Go to the bookstore and look at the magazines in your niche.
Look at the titles listed on the cover of the magazine. Those titles are crafted to attract attention, to stand out to folks who are interested in that topic, and those titles can give you great inspiration for your articles.
Note: Don’t read the article and then try to craft an article using someone else’s article as inspiration–don’t do it…EVER! You want your article to be 100% unique, written by you and not with any ‘borrowed’ ideas or phrases, so use the title as inspiration, not the article.
3) Put on your teacher’s hat.
‘How To’ articles are HUGE–all of us enjoy the idea of learning how to do something new. No matter what your field of business is, you can teach someone (a potential customer) how to do something.
Are you a landscaper? Write an article teaching someone how to take care of their lawn. Are you a jewelry maker? Teach someone the best way to care for their fine jewelry. Are you a business coach? Oh, the possibilities are endless for you!
4) Fill in the blanks.
10 Great Reasons Why ____
How To ____ in 7 Easy Steps
9 Surefire Ways To ____
The Top 10 Mistakes People Make When ____
Whenever I’m stumped for something to write about, I go through my “template titles” like those listed above and just fill in the blanks. Having a head start with the title helps get the creative juices flowing!
5) Write a ‘Top 5′ article.
Begin with a title that has the words ‘Top 5′ in it, for example:
“The Top 5 Benefits of Eating Organic Fruits and Veggies”
“The Top 5 Mistakes Everyone Makes On Their Tax Return”
“The Top 5 Reasons Why Online Businesses Succeed”
You get the idea–sometimes having guidelines for a title is just the spurt of inspiration you need to get your creative juices flowing. EVERYONE can write a Top 5 article no matter what the topic of their article is. And if that’s not enough, readers love Top 5 lists!
6) Pick up your pom-poms.
No matter what line of work you’re in, your customers will appreciate an article that encourages them. Pretend like you’re a cheerleader for a moment and ask yourself, “What areas might my potential customers need encouragement in?” Even if you’re in the most straight-laced, non-emotional field ever, there are still emotions around your field of business that affect how your customers feel.
Here’s an encouraging article topic for a straight-laced field–Finance :
“How To Give Yourself Peace Of Mind By Living On A Budget”
You get the idea–just think about what stresses your readers out about your field, and write an article to soothe that fear.
7) Don’t forget the newbies or assume that your potential clients know as much as you do.
When you’re dealing with a topic day in and day out it’s easy to forget that your potential customers may not even know what the basics of your field are. No topic is too basic!
Think about how you feel when you’re investigating a subject matter that isn’t familiar to you, and all you run into are articles that are over your head–ouch! Write an article that goes over basic information. Write for folks who know nothing about what you do but might be interested in becoming potential customers if they did.
Have you got any ideas for new articles yet? Yes, you probably have at least a dozen or more new article topics in mind by now! These 7 article topic tips can be used over and over–there is no end to the number of great, thoughtful, sticky articles you can write if you use these 7 tips.
Now you’ve got no excuses–you’re ready to start writing articles TODAY!

Organizing Craft Supplies

Craft supplies organized in 3 simple steps.
Do you find yourself looking at a room with bits everywhere, let alone a house with knitting in one room, Painting gear in another, card making supplies in another? Does this sound like you? If so lets look at a 3 step plan to get you and your craft gear organized….
1. Start by collecting all your craft supplies into one room, I mean everything! If you have the space then at the same time, put like with like ie Paint brushes with your paints and canvases. Wool and needles together with patterns. Card, cutting pads, embellishment’s and the like for card making all together and like wise with scrap booking supplies and any other craft that you par take in. Whilst doing this, take time to get rid of things that you don’t use anymore. If you haven’t used it in six months, out it goes. If you have a lot of magazines on crafts that you enjoy, keep them together as well.
2. Now that you have all your craft supplies in one room and organized into piles, its time to look at what you have around the house to tidy them into. If you can afford it, then maybe its time to go and have a look at Target or Walmart for some storage containers. If your like me and have a lot of little embellishment’s then a lot of small plastic containers is perfect. What you can do is put all like small supplies into these containers and then keep them together in a larger container (this can be a shoe box). Keep all your scrap booking papers together (I have an open file that I keep all of mine it, makes it easy to see what you have too) The other option is if you have a filing cabinet, you can use one draw for papers, patterns, cutting pads, and even canvases and another for all the other more bulky supplies. The idea is to keep it simple, but all together and easy to access. You don’t need to spend a lot of money doing this, you can even cover a few boxes with pretty paper and keep supplies in these.
3. Lastly, make sure you keep your craft supplies where you can access it easily. After all, its really not worth it to put these things that you use at least once or twice a week on the top shelf of a storage cupboard. If you are lucky enough to have a room that has space then make the most of it. I have a desk in the spare room, and under it I have a plastic wheelie bin, with the things I use lest often, on top of that I have my canvases so they are easier to get hold of. Next to the desk I have a set of plastic coated baskets, which hold all my main craft supplies in shoe size boxes, and a few other containers I found around the house. It really does work, because you come to learn where everything is. It also means that if you run out of something its easy to see that its not there….you don’t find yourself running around looking for the particular item for days on end, swearing you had it the other day.
Good luck with sorting out your supplies.
